U NGUO YA?
A Returned Peace Corps Volunteer
shares her experience in Cameroon, Central Africa
Akilah Clarke spent two years in Foumban, a small town in the West province of francophone Cameroon.  As an English teacher in a public high school, she taught classes with an average of 80 students each.  The TEFL Peace Corps program combines teaching English with AIDS prevention, and she conducted many AIDS prevention activities with her students in and outside of the classroom.

Akilah lived in a 3-bedroom, 2- bathroom apartment, but with no running water and intermittent electricity.  On one side of the street she could often see luxury cars, and on the other, 8 and 9-year old pushcart boys, were working for their food money.  Cameroon, like many post-colonial African societies, is a mix of tradition and modernity.  This interactive session will include music, photos, language, crafts and more.   Come experience a little bit of Cameroon.

2004 Peace Corps Aids Walk Team Members in the shade
The Minority Peace Corps Association, the Big Apple Corps and the New York Peace Corps Regional Peace Corps office teamed together to raise well over $2,500.00 for the fight against Aids.  This year we had a great turn out and lots of fun walking a little over 6 miles on a sunny day.
